Each wireless carrier uses a combination of databases and call analytics to identify potential unwanted calls. The TRACED Act authorized telecom carriers to take steps to cut down on robocalls (one of the biggest complaints to the Federal Communications Commission every year for the last five years). The steps that telecom carriers take includes using various databases to identify caller ID numbers that have been flagged as spam, scam, or telemarketer in the past, plus a number of other real-time call data points. Some of the known or suspected data points include call duration, call attempts from a Caller ID number, and frequency of call attempts to the same phone number. The good news is that calls signed with a SHAKEN A Attestation (token) will not be blocked or mislabeled by the carriers. The A Attestation Token is a trusted call in the telecom ecosystem.
