Calls with a Checkmark Have Been Verified by the Carrier

Reviewing missed calls on a mobile phone, a checkmark next to a phone number stands out — tapping the info icon reveals the date and time of the call along with a note: "Calls with checkmark have been verified by the carrier."

That checkmark is the wireless carrier's representation that the call originated from a carrier that knows the calling party and confirms the Caller ID number is authorized for that party's use — an A attestation.

The three levels of SHAKEN attestation

  • A Attestation (Full Attestation): the carrier knows its customer (KYC) and knows the customer is authorized to use the Caller ID number in the record header. Calls with an A attestation are what trigger the "verified" checkmark on a mobile device.
  • B Attestation (Partial Attestation): the carrier knows the customer but doesn't know whether they're authorized to use the Caller ID number. Calls with B attestation don't display a checkmark.
  • C Attestation (Gateway Attestation): the carrier can't authenticate the call's source, as with an international gateway. This is effectively fatal to a call's answer rate — QVD will not originate calls with a C attestation.

QVD Elastic SIP customers get A-Attestation on every call

To meet Know Your Customer requirements, every Quality Voice & Data customer purchasing SIP trunks completes a Trusted Call Completion® application, giving QVD the minimum information needed to protect its right to sign calls and maintain its role as a SHAKEN Service Provider. Customers who purchase their Caller ID numbers from QVD and use QVD's SIP trunks get 100% of their calls signed with an A attestation; customers using numbers purchased elsewhere can provide a signed LOA authorizing QVD to apply A attestation to those numbers.

The absence of a checkmark costs you

Uber builds trust by requiring drivers to display an Uber sign — its absence lowers confidence in the driver and, in turn, the brand. Unsigned outbound calls work the same way: they're like an unmarked Uber, decreasing confidence in the call and ultimately in your brand. QVD offers a free SHAKEN test that tells you immediately whether your calls are signed with an A, B, or C attestation.
